Chinese University Social Sciences Data Center (CSDC) of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) was officially approved by the Ministry of Education and established in September 2012, and is jointly managed by the Ministry of Education and HUST. It is an important part and supporting institution of the social science management system for China’s universities. Under the guidance of and commissioned by the Ministry of Education, CSDC provides support in data, decision-making and technical services for the humanities and social science research of the Ministry of Education, departments of education of provinces (autonomous regions and province-level municipalities) and universities, nationwide. The center will be gradually built into a center providing information, data analysis and technical service in the Chinese university social science management system. Modern information technology will be adopted by the center to gradually meet the data demand of China’s social science development. The center aims to improve the social science management, service and decision-making ability, advance scientific research management innovation and make management innovation a driving force of academic innovation.
The main responsibilities of CSDC include:
1. Providing long-term and stable technical services for the informatization of Chinese universities in social science, and organizing training in informatization of social science management.
2. Building social science management database of Chinese universities, including sorting, processing and storing relevant data.
3. Formulating unified standards for the construction of social science research databases of Chinese universities, and promoting the construction, sharing and application of social science research data.
4. Carrying out statistical analysis and data mining of social science management data, and providing corresponding advice in the form of research reports, special reports, briefings and so on for the decision-making of departments of social science management at all levels.
5. Optimizing data utilization, carrying out data transformation and data development, providing data query and retrieval services, and publishing comprehensive and authoritative social science data of Chinese universities.
6. Organizing domestic and international academic conferences themed on the informanization of Chinese university social science management.
